Eocene euthecosomatous Pteropoda (Gastropoda) of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of North America - BAP #341
Euthecosomatous pteropods of Early Tertiary seas were equally or more diverse than they are in present-day oceans, and probably as abundant. Twenty-eight new species and three new genera are described from the Eocene of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Nova Scotian shelf. In addition, seven species that previously were not reported from North America were found in these localities. These 35 species plus 13 previously described North American Eocene pteropod species constitute a total of 48 species now known to occur in North America. The genera Camptoceratops and Euchilotheca are reported from North America for the first time.
